I realize it has been a while since I wrote an entry. The summer is flying by way too quickly. I was totally shocked when people started talking about their plans for the 4th of July. Was it that time already?! After the initial shock of summer being halfway over wore off I decided to get my plans together. Coach Dan decided it was a good time for a training break. And even though I was the one who mentioned a break I think I was secretly hoping Coach would tell me no or just give me 2 or 3 days but off. But no…instead he graciously gave me a whole week off, definitely my longest break ever. I know I will be happy about having this time off when I’m training for 70.3 Worlds in November but right now it seemed a little scary. I did what coach told me even managed to stop thinking about triathlon for the most part. The first few days were nice and I was happy to have the extra time to catch up on life, sleep in, visit friends, drink wine, and watch the World Cup. The next few days I began getting VERY antsy but managed to satisfy myself with a few easy runs. Plus, the chance to sleep in never gets old. Then the weekend came and I wasn’t about to sit around and be bored. So, I dragged my husband around Philadelphia to do things we always talk about doing but never get time for. By the end of the weekend my husband was worn out and asking me when my training started again. Ha! We went downtown to watch the World Cup matches at an English Pub, took a walking tour of historic Philadelphia (very appropriate too since it was the 4th), did some shopping, went to Valley Forge National Park and did our own running tour of the sites, picnicked and went to a BBQ where I got to play soccer! I definitely miss playing soccer but it’s a little risky with injuries so I don’t play as often as I would like (plus it’s hard to find the time). Anyway, it was a fun group to play with and we ended up playing for about 2+ hours. I woke up the next day and could barely move. And it wasn’t just from my husband throwing me across the soccer pitch trying to keep me from getting the ball from him. I forgot I had all those muscles that require you to run sideways, sprint, twist, etc., muscles you don’t use when you run bike and swim. Anyway, it was totally worth it. 2 more days off and then I am re-entering the world of triathlon. I’m making sure to get in lots of wine and chocolate between now and Wednesday, fully enjoy staying up late and sleeping in, and get all those little things done. I am fat and slow now, hope I remember how to ride my bike, and that these early mornings don’t kick my butt too badly!
