I love Zoot camp and this year it saved me from suffering major depression from leaving
Australia. I flew from Brisbane to LA and headed right down the coast to Carlsbad. It was absolutely beautiful in Carlsbad this year since they’ve had a lot of rain and the flowers were in full bloom. I couldn’t believe the colors! We switched hotels this year and we had a great view of the flower gardens and the ocean. It was perfect. Plus, it had 25meter outdoor pool. Totally cool (although we really didn’t have a lot of free time to be in it)! It was great to see old teammates, especially since it’s been off season and none of us have really been in touch. We got our new uniforms (love the new design!), had dinner and I was off to bed. Ahhh jetlag! The next morning came too early but I was up early to meet Sam and Caroline for a little extra running before our group run. We got in about 30minutes and then headed back out with the team. We ran down to the ocean just as the sun was coming up. The surfers were already out in the ocean waiting
for the waves and we saw a group of dolphins swimming by. The rest of the day was spent in meetings with our sponsors. It’s a little hard to be sitting inside all day with the sun shining so beautifully but it’s always great to hear the latest info and new products from our sponsors. We get to ask all kinds of questions. Zoot has some great new products out this year which I can’t wait to try. The new running shoes look super cool! After the meetings we had team photos with Larry Rosa and off to dinner again. Camp seemed to go by too quickly this year and before I knew it I was heading back to the airport. Luckily I had Sam to keep me company on the way down and to keep me from stressing out about possibly missing my flight (totally my fault, I was running so behind!). No worries though, I made it. I was even lucky enough that the guy at the check in counter did not
even look at the scale when I put my bag on there (it was WAY overweight!) and didn’t even ask what was in my bike bag. Love it! Anyway, back to Philly, work, and my husband (which was one of the few things I was looking forward too-almost 3 weeks away seemed really long and I really missed him and his cooking!) But, race season is right around the corner. So excited!
