Monday started off with a bang as we were in the pool by 5:30AM swimming, swimming, swimming and more swimming. Good thing we had a day off yesterday so my arms were a little more rested. Coach Paul busted me for taking it too easy when on the last interval he told me “My watch is on you Heather!” and I swam about 6sec faster for my 100 than I had been. Seriously though, it was a new PR for me and I was happy to be able to swim that fast. Later in the day we had one of my favorite workouts, hard bike intervals. We found this great road that was a 5minute loop with only a few turns and no cars. We cruised around the loop with Paul riding next to us on the scooter (I really wish I had my camera! It was hilarious!) giving us tips and yelling at us to ride faster. After the ride we went over to Paul’s for a twilight BBQ. There is nothing better than sitting on a rooftop deck with a great view of the ocean, the sun setting in the background, awesome food and friends. We had a blast sharing our crazy training stories and we all were laughing so hard!
And in case any of you are curious, there still have not been any kangaroo sightings. I do have insider information now on where to go to see kangaroos and koala’s so Julie and I are on a mission. I think we will be able to complete our goal! Unfortunately my Australian wildlife experience so far has only consisted of lizards, a few Australian bats, lots of birds (which are VERY noisy!) some cows, and much to my dismay, Charlie. Charlie has set up camp in the bushes outside our house and seems to be enjoying building huge webs in various locations so we are always unpleasantly surprised when we walk outside and just about walk right into him and his web. And then yesterday on my run in Noosa National park I just about ran into his bigger and uglier brother. He had built a web right across the trail and I saw him just at the last minute, ducked underneath quickly and prayed when I looked behind me he was still in his web and not on my head. Luckily he was. I’ve seen enough Australian spiders for this trip!
