Well, race morning did not start out well nor did it end well. Maybe that’s a little dramatic but it was a rough day. Usually I wake up the morning of my first race with tons of emotions; excitement, nervousness, anxiety, you name it. Everything seems a little heighten before the first race. This race morning was quite a bit different. After my alarm annoyingly woke me up way too early I was jolted out of bed with these crazy stomach cramps. I didn’t have (and still don’t) any idea what was going on and could only hope they would subside before the race (which of course they didn’t). The drive up to the race seemed long, especially when it started raining. People at the race site were pulling in, getting out of there cars, and turning right around and leaving the race. The thought crossed my mind too, my stomach was still killing me, it was cold and wet, and this was only a “for fun” race to shake off the cobwebs. I really wanted to race though and was all ready here… About 3minutes before the race I finally made up my mind. I decided to start the run, see how it went and if things were still not good I would pull out. It was only a prep race anyway and there was no use hurting myself. The first run went well and that was about it. You can read my race report for more on how the race went but it wasn’t the result I was hoping for. I’m sure a lot of factors were in play and in the end I was happy to get out there and race, even with the horrible conditions. At least I now know I remember HOW to race!
