Well, race morning did not start out well nor did it end well. Maybe that’s a little dramatic but it was a rough day. Usually I wake up the morning of my first race with tons of emotions; excitement, nervousness, anxiety, you name it. Everything seems a little heighten before the first race. This race morning was quite a bit different. After my alarm annoyingly woke me up way too early I was jolted out of bed with these crazy stomach cramps. I didn’t have (and still don’t) any idea what was going on and could only hope they would subside before the race (which of course they didn’t). The drive up to the race seemed long, especially when it started raining. People at the race site were pulling in, getting out of there cars, and turning right around and leaving the race. The thought crossed ...

I can’t believe I am racing tomorrow. I barely managed to unpack from Zoot camp in San Diego (which was SO much fun and I will write about it soon) and found myself packing again for my race tomorrow. Fortunately, it is a small local race (and a duathlon) so I don’t need a lot of stuff but you would never know by the time it took me to pack. The first race of the season is tough but a good chance to work the kinks out. My outdoor rides this year include one 10min spin which was done today. Yep, I can still steer my bike! Next up was prepping my race shoes with speed laces. Now if only I can remember how to transition… Weather forecast tomorrow = 45degrees, rain, thundershowers. Hmmm…. not encouraging conditions but it’s time to get racing. I am excited to test out th ...

I'm off to San Diego this weekend for Zoot Camp. I'm so excited! On the agenda is meetings with sponsors, photo shoots, team gear pick-up, a party, and a few group training sessions. I'm also going to watch Oceanside 70.3 since some of teammates and friends are racing. I'm sure I'll be envious watching them race. It will get me reved up for my little local duathlon I will be racing in the following weekend. The winter seemed to drag on but now I feel like time is flying!

Things are buzzing along quite smoothly here as we get closer and closer to Spring (Yippee!). There have been a few days where it actually FELT like Spring but we are not quite there yet (come on already!). My job has improved significantly. The change has been refreshing and I’m learning the ropes. Triathlon season also feels right around the corner. Packages are arriving in the mail from all my amazing sponsors, I’ve registered for a few races, and I have all my arrangements around for Zoot camp in San Diego in April. I am so excited about camp. I had so much fun last year and know this year will be much more fun because I know more people. I also made sure I made it out in time for Oceanside 70.3, especially since so many of my friends are racing. I love watching triathlons almost as much as I love doing ...

SNOW DAY |

Luck for me I got a snow day today. It’s always nice to get some unscheduled free time although I have a list a mile long of stuff to do so it’s not really that too relaxing. And last week was by far the furthest thing from relaxing. It was my first week at my new job and it was crazy hard! They threw so much information at me and had me in so many unfamiliar situations that I have never been so glad to see Friday night in my life. I’ve never started a new job that was this stressful and I never realized how much of an effect stress has on your body. I’m not usually the kind of person that gets stressed out so this was pretty unfamiliar to me. It sucked! I woke up with a sense of dread every morning, felt exhausted from the minute I woke up, and on the rare occasion that I could drag myself out to ...

All I have to say is that summer better come really soon. My plans to go to Mexico have fallen through so I am forced to endure the rest of winter without a break. Boo hoo! Fortunately it is 60 degrees out today and although I know it won’t last, at least it’s a reprieve from the single digit temps we’ve been having. It’s so depressing though…. Anyway, with thoughts of embracing the rest of winter I went tobogganing this weekend. This wasn’t just any toboggan slide either. This slide is in the mountains of Pennsylvania and has been running since 1904. They cut thick blocks of ice out of the lake and line them up to the top of the hill. Grooves are cut in the ice and the wooden toboggans slide down in the grooves.&nbs ...

January excitement |

So, I’m not really good at the blogging thing but I’m sure you guys all figured that out already. It’s been a VERY busy month which is unusual for January. I’m usually bored and ansty after all the festivities of the holidays. January usually ends up being cold and dull with nothing going on. But, this January has been completely different except that it has been cold…REALLY REALLY cold. So I’ve decided to go to Mexico. I can’t take it anymore. I finally convinced my husband to take me away. We went to Mexico 2 years ago and loved it. It was a totally laid back vacation where we did nothing except run, swim, lie on the beach and snorkel. I can’t wait to do it again. And then when I get back I will be starting a new job. After 5 y ...

A New Year |

I thought about writing a quick note here and there but somehow never managed to. Too bad but I was way too busy having fun. I did manage to get all my Christmas shopping done, eat way too many Christmas cookies, drink way too much wine, and spend way too much time in the car running errands and going to families houses for the holidays. I did not manage to get all my workouts in but I did pretty well. I think I only missed a few swim workouts (which I really didn’t mind, I never do!). However, even though I did get most of workouts in I really wasn’t focused on them. It was just sort of like get them over with so I can get on with all the other things I have to do. But today, it’s back to work and back to serious training (and hopefully back to blogging a little more often!). On that note, ...

TIS THE SEASON |

Well, it definitely feels like Christmas outside. We got a nice little dusting of snow this weekend in Philadelphia and it is COLD, really cold! It also feels like Christmas inside too. My husband and I got our tree up and decorated last night and we had so much fun doing it! We always make a mini party (you know I love to celebrate!). We drank wine, had an amazing assortment of cheeses, bread, seafood, and listened to Christmas music all night. We love pulling our ornaments out because they hold so many memories and it’s re-living our life. We buy at least one ornament each year, something that holds significance for us for that year. We have an ornament from the year we got married, a glass sushi roll and chopsticks from a trip to the Japanese Gardens in Portland, OR, and a big glass ball made from ash from Mt. St. Helen&a ...

Post-Birthday depression |

It’s so sad when all the fun is over but I guess it’s time to get back to reality. I had so much fun celebrating my birthday and it was everything I had hoped it would be. My husband took me out to some great restaurants and bought me awesome gifts, I ate more sushi than you can imagine with my family and I had a great time staying out late with all my friends. I don’t really get enough time to spend with everyone during the racing season anyway so this is a perfect excuse. Unfortunately now both my birthday and Thanksgiving are over and I need to find something else to get me excited… back to training! I now feel perfectly fat and out of shape which is just enough to motivate me to get back at it. And, in all my enthusiasm over next years’ season, I’ve convinced my husband to get bac ...
