Summer
Heather's blog By Heather Leiggi on 8/18/2009 9:59 PM
I just wanted to (and really needed to) write a quick update as summer is flying by. I haven’t blogged much but at least I’ve been keeping up with race reports and stuff. It’s better than nothing! I can’t believe it is the end of August already… alright it’s only the middle of August but it’s still flying by and I don’t like it. I really really really love summer. I’ve often thought I should move somewhere where it is summer all year long… And no, I would not miss winter one little bit! Alas, I am still in Philadelphia for a while so I guess I’ll deal. My husband and I managed to get to the shore this year which was awesome. I love the beach as much as I love summer and even though we only live an hour from the shore we never ...

Colorado Training Camp
Heather's blog By Heather Leiggi on 7/11/2009 8:36 PM

It's been so exciting and busy here in Colorado Springs and I'm so exhausted I can barely stand up.  Always the sign of a good trip!  I came out here for a mini training camp with my coach.  It's been fun to see Colorado since I have never been here before and even better to get some one-on-one time with my coach.  We've done tons of testing, swim lessons, cycling skills work,  a fun little Splash and Dash race, and lots of other workouts.  What a great place to train, beautiful roads for cycling, great little running trails and resevoirs for open water swimming (I never get to swim outdoors at home!).  I've been at the Carmichael Training Center the past few days for testing and it was great to meet Chris and all his crew and see the new facility.  Today we stopped by Denver after our morning workouts and had a great lunch outdoors in downtown Denver.&n ...

Post Philly
Heather's blog By Heather Leiggi on 6/30/2009 10:06 AM

Finally we have had some nice weather here in Philly and it's back to our normal Philly summer, hot and humid.  The weather for the Philly Tri this past weekend was pretty much close to perfect.  It was 80degrees and low humidity.  The race was a lot of fun.  You can read my race report for details but I was happy and relieved I had a good race.  I always feel a lot more pressure to perform well at my home race.  My parents came down to watch and we went out for some excellent Mexican food after the race. I can't believe it's the 4th of July this weekend already.  I'll be off in the mountains to relax and train (and hopefully see some fireworks!) and then when I get back I am off to Colorado to do some testing and training with my coach.  I am really excited about it.  Not only just for the high altitude training and time with my coach but just to see&nbs ...

Where's summer?!
Heather's blog By Heather Leiggi on 6/17/2009 10:30 PM

With a few races over I finally feel like triathlon season is in full swing.  It's about time! This is my favorite time of year.  Racing has gone well so far and Eagleman was a ton of fun as always.  Now I'm taking some much needed time to rest and recover.  Work has been a bit better but mostly because I only have 2 days left.  Yes, I quit.  Yeah!  Things just weren't working out the way I had hoped.  No worries though, I have found a new job and will be starting next week.  I hate all these changes, especially when I'm trying to concentrate on racing and training, but I definitely needed a better situation so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  I AM hoping for a change in the weather.  It has been raining non-stop in Philadelphia and has been overcast, cool and humid for months.  It definitely does NOT feel like su ...

Change
Heather's blog By Heather Leiggi on 6/8/2009 8:54 PM

Yes, once again it's been FOREVER since i blogged...

Life has been absolutely crazy and not necessarily in a good way.  My "oh so wise" job change ended up being not so wise and has been 3 months of stress.  Not very good for training and I've definitely suffered.  Memphis in May triathlon came and went with me barely noticing and although the race wasn't all that bad I know I can do better.  You never know how things are going to be unless you try and as my coach said, "it takes a lot of guts and confidence to make big changes".  This made me feel better.  Not all decisions work out and I am a firm believer that all things happen for a reason.   So, whatever the reason, it happened and now...I'm moving on.  I'm pretty nervous due to the scars from the last change but I don ...

Rain, rain, rain
Heather's blog By Heather Leiggi on 5/4/2009 9:11 PM

I am usually pretty good about going with the flow when it comes to the weather (other than dealing with the cold which I am definitely a wimp!) but I have absolutely had it with all this rain.  I have barely seen the sun in over a month now and I am feeling it.  This weekend I ran the Broad Street Run 10-miler and of course it rained.  On the bright side (no pun intended) it was much better than the last race, the Doylestown Du.   At least I didn't have to bike.  The race was really crowded this year with over 27,000 people.  I got to the start with barely enough time and wasn't able to push through the mobs of runners to get a good race position. It took me over 4minutes to cross the start line.  I was bummed but I was just doing this race for fun and to get in a good long workout so even though I wanted to run a good time I wasn't in full on race mode.  The race did go well although ...

Not my finest hour
Heather's blog By Heather Leiggi on 4/12/2009 11:34 PM
Well, race morning did not start out well nor did it end well. Maybe that’s a little dramatic but it was a rough day. Usually I wake up the morning of my first race with tons of emotions; excitement, nervousness, anxiety, you name it. Everything seems a little heighten before the first race. This race morning was quite a bit different. After my alarm annoyingly woke me up way too early I was jolted out of bed with these crazy stomach cramps. I didn’t have (and still don’t) any idea what was going on and could only hope they would subside before the race (which of course they didn’t). The drive up to the race seemed long, especially when it started raining. People at the race site were pulling in, getting out of there cars, and turning right around and leaving the race. The thought crossed ...

Race time
Heather's blog By Heather Leiggi on 4/10/2009 10:47 PM
I can’t believe I am racing tomorrow.  I barely managed to unpack from Zoot camp in San Diego (which was SO much fun and I will write about it soon) and found myself packing again for my race tomorrow. Fortunately, it is a small local race (and a duathlon) so I don’t need a lot of stuff but you would never know by the time it took me to pack. The first race of the season is tough but a good chance to work the kinks out. My outdoor rides this year include one 10min spin which was done today. Yep, I can still steer my bike! Next up was prepping my race shoes with speed laces. Now if only I can remember how to transition… Weather forecast tomorrow = 45degrees, rain, thundershowers. Hmmm…. not encouraging conditions but it’s time to get racing. I am excited to test out th ...

Off to San Diego
Heather's blog By Heather Leiggi on 3/31/2009 11:32 PM

I'm off to San Diego this weekend for Zoot Camp.  I'm so excited!  On the agenda is meetings with sponsors, photo shoots, team gear pick-up, a party, and a few group training sessions.  I'm also going to watch Oceanside 70.3 since some of teammates and friends are racing.  I'm sure I'll be envious watching them race.  It will get me reved up for my little local duathlon I will be racing in the following weekend.  The winter seemed to drag on but now I feel like time is flying!

Here comes Spring
Heather's blog By Heather Leiggi on 3/23/2009 9:40 PM
Things are buzzing along quite smoothly here as we get closer and closer to Spring (Yippee!). There have been a few days where it actually FELT like Spring but we are not quite there yet (come on already!). My job has improved significantly. The change has been refreshing and I’m learning the ropes. Triathlon season also feels right around the corner. Packages are arriving in the mail from all my amazing sponsors, I’ve registered for a few races, and I have all my arrangements around for Zoot camp in San Diego in April. I am so excited about camp. I had so much fun last year and know this year will be much more fun because I know more people. I also made sure I made it out in time for Oceanside 70.3, especially since so many of my friends are racing. I love watching triathlons almost as much as I love doing ...
